What Is the Difference Between MR and BWP Plywood?

It is made with Melamine Urea Formaldehyde (MUF) synthetic resin used as per IS:848-1974, which provides moderate water resistance, but may not sustain prolonged exposure to water. MR plywood is commonly used for interior applications, such as cabinets, furniture, and wall panelling. It is ideal for areas with high moisture & humidity.

Which Is Better, MR or BWP Plywood?

Both BWP and MR plywood have distinct characteristics that make them appropriate for a variety of applications. BWP (Boiling Water Proof) plywood is specially developed to withstand moisture and water, making it perfect for outdoor and maritime applications. It is manufactured with high-quality glue, making it extremely robust and resistant to delamination.

Are IS-710-Compliant Plywood Boiling Waterproof?

IS 710 is an Indian Standard specification for boiling waterproof (BWP) grade plywood. IS 710-compliant plywood is waterproof and can withstand boiling water for several hours without delaminating or losing structural integrity.

However, it should be noted that IS 710-compliant plywood is not completely waterproof. While it can withstand water to some extent, it is still susceptible to damage if exposed to moisture for an extended period. As a result, it is critical to protect IS 710 plywood from moisture and water by sealing its edges and surfaces with a suitable coating or paint.
